Reality TV show ‘Cops’ canceled, ‘Live PD’ and ‘Body Cam’ shelved in the wake of George Floyd protests

After 30 years on the air, the actuality TV show “Cops” has been canceled.

The transfer comes after ViacomCBS determined to tug episodes of the show on June 1 in the wake of protests in opposition to police brutality and the police-involved loss of life of George Floyd. Now, the community is dropping the show altogether.

“‘Cops’ is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return,” a community spokesperson informed The Hollywood Reporter.

Old episodes of the show air on WGN America and the ViacomCBS-owned streaming service Pluto TV. WGN’s dedication to the show expires at the finish of the month and the cable community would not plan to resume it, sources informed THR.

A&E has additionally pulled episodes of its actuality police show “Live PD” and Discovery’s “Body Cam” can also be off the community’s broadcast schedule. 

Shows like “Cops” have lengthy confronted scrutiny for the depiction of police ways. 

“Crime shows like #Cops have a huge influence over the way the public thinks about criminal justice and by misrepresenting this system, these shows turn people against overdue reform efforts,” Color of Change, a progressive nonprofit civil rights advocacy group, wrote on Twitter after the cancellation announcement.
