The National Basketball Association is requiring teams to play the national anthem earlier than video games, Chief Communications Officer Mike Bass stated in a press release Wednesday.

The league announcement comes after information that the Dallas Mavericks ceased taking part in the national anthem prior to residence video games this season on the path of proprietor Mark Cuban.

The Mavericks haven’t performed the national anthem earlier than any residence video games this season, a crew spokesperson instructed NBC News.

“With NBA teams now in the process of welcoming fans back into their arenas, all teams will play the national anthem in keeping with longstanding league policy.” Bass stated within the assertion.

The announcement from Bass appears to contradict a earlier assertion from NBA spokesman Tim Frank, who instructed NBC News that “teams are permitted to run their pregame operations as they see fit.”

Though league coverage requires gamers to stand for the national anthem, in accordance to NBC Sports, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver hasn’t strictly enforced the rule, permitting gamers to kneel throughout the anthem within the NBA bubble final season.

The Mavericks tackle the Atlanta Hawks at residence Wednesday evening on the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
