The first main snowstorm of 2021 is underway, with energy outages hitting New Jersey, a state of emergency declared throughout 44 counties in New York state, and the most important recorded snowfall at Chicago O’Hare Airport since 2015.
As of noon Monday, about 1,500 clients in New Jersey have been with out energy, Gov. Phil Murphy stated on Twitter, with the worst of the storm but to hit. Forecasters predict a number of extra inches in southern New Jersey, and a minimum of one other foot of snow within the northern components of the state.
In New York state, snow is anticipated to fall at a charge of about two inches per hour this afternoon. Areas in New York City, Long Island and Mid-Hudson areas might see as much as 2 ft of snow by Tuesday morning.
Major airways have canceled service to most NYC airports, and American Airlines has canceled operations in a number of affected states, with restricted service to return on Tuesday.
Pennsylvania is seeing comparable snowfall charges, with 2 to three inches anticipated per hour Monday afternoon, in response to the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated Monday the Biden administration has been in touch with FEMA and is monitoring the storm.
