New Delhi: The deadline for submitting returns by individual taxpayers for FY 2019-20 has been extended by a month till 31 December, the finance ministry stated on Saturday.
For these taxpayers whose accounts have to be audited, the Income-Tax Return submitting deadline has been extended by two months till 31 January, 2021.
The authorities had in May extended the date for submitting ITR for FY2019-20 from 31 July to 30 November, to present compliance aid to taxpayers.
In view of constraints being confronted by taxpayers as a result of COVID-19,CBDT additional extends due dates for varied compliances for FY 2019-20:

In a press release, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) stated, “The due date for furnishing of Income Tax Returns for the taxpayers [for whom the due date (i.e. before the extension by the said notification) as per the Act was 31 July, 2020] has been extended to 31 December, 2020.”
The due date for furnishing of ITR for the taxpayers, who’re required to get their accounts audited (for whom the due date as per the I-T Act is 31 October, 2020), has been extended to 31 January, 2021, it added.
The CBDT stated the deadlines have been extended to be able to “provide more time to taxpayers for furnishing of Income Tax Returns”.
